• My Favorite Childhood TV Shows
  • Time changes everything but sometimes the old times are the best…
When I was a kid there were no TV shows. so I could not have a favourite. In fact there were no TV’s at least not owned by  normal people

However what I did enjoy was cuddling up to Granddad’s radio ( run on an accumulator battery) and listening each night to Mrs Dale’s Diary, The Archers and Dick Barton,… Special Agent with Whitey and Jock.

Listening to the radio left so much to the imagination and you could visualize in your head just what was happening and what these people . looked like.
Since the coming of TV there has been no need to imagine anything, you just sit, watch and take in someone else’s imagination. Shame really but that is progress….

  1. I remember the old radio and the shows we used to listen to also. I used to dream that one day I would grow up and be a guest singing on a show since it was all live. How wonderful!

I think that it scares all of us when you really think about it…children growing up like zombies and unable to think for themselves..very sad!

You really brought back some memories with this post. “Fibber McGee and Molly” was always my favorite. He was famous for stuffing all his junk into one closet and every time he opened it you would hear a big crash as all the junk came piling down on top of him. You could just see it so easily in your mind’s eye.

  7. I loved this story. I don’t know if the lack of imagination constitutes as progress this time though. Even though they say it does!

  8. Hi Patrecia!
Oh, I am a radio fan!!! While we didnt have the great radio shows growing up here, I loved listening to the BBC and others on Shortwave for they had radio shows. I listen to baseball here on a 1940 Philco Radio… We have a 1927 Zenith Radio… old radios are great!

    Your friends,
    The Collies and Chuck :)

The only radio we have now is included on the TV and that is mostly nasty horrible noisy music..but sometimes there is a good play or an old comedy from the past. You can’t beat the old’uns

  11. I loved to listen to radio programs. My favorites were The Lone Ranger and Bobby Benson and the B-Bar-B Riders. It was years before I realized I was listening to boy stories. Dianne
